Custom Christmas Caroler Sculptures

Yeah! I am 99% finished with this pair of carolers. All I need to do is minor finishing touches and they are ready to go off to Florida to a PRECIOUS lady who collects Christmas Carolers. I hope she likes them (fingers crossed!)

Grandma plays by the rules. She carries her song book so she doesn't miss a note. She is always looking a little worried about Grandpa, who drinks too much eggnog, refuses to wear his hearing aide, and sings terribly out of tune. And that d*&m tambourine that he carries around! That's okay because she's blocked him out with her earmuffs.

I've added some pics of my progress along the way. The first step was creating their heads from polymer clay so I could get some idea of what kind of bodies they would need. Grandpa's body is sculpted with Apoxie Sculpt around a cigar-holder filled with river pebbles for weight and stability and Grandma's body is from a Red-Stripe bottle that I have done a treatment on with mulberry paper and Apoxie-Sculpt. Her book is created with Darwi Clay. The tambourine is made with cork, apoxie sculpt, and sequins from one of my favorite shirts that I sacrificed because I had this vision. I should have waited and bought sequins but I'm way too impatient!

I'm sad that they're done and I'm going to have to ship them off but I know they are going to a good home where they are going to be loved.

See you tomorrow! I need to find a new project!

Renee :)

Wow, wow, wow. wow, wow.

The beer bottle totally worked.

I bet you must be a little sad to see them go.

And good recycling on the sequins.

Thank you Penguin! My son said she looks like his math teacher so I've named them Mr. and Mrs. Gregory.

Jannie, I AM sad to see them go. I really shouldn't have cut up my shirt to get the sequins but I'm probably too old for that shirt anyway!

They remind me of my Mom & Dad...they've been gone for years now so it made me kinda melancholy...in a good way. Fabulous work!
