I had the body started for this little mischievous elf a while back but I wanted to finish Mr. and Mrs. Gregory (my carolers) before I worked on anything else. Last night while watching the season finale of Top Design, I grabbed my clay and made this little face.
I also am experimenting with ways to make more realistic looking eyes (after paying $15 for the German glass eyes for Mrs. Gregory! Yikes!) I think I've found a pretty good method, but I'm not going to really say until I try them in a sculpture. By the way, I didn't use them in this elf and now I'm wondering how I'm going to "fix" his eyes now that they're in his head. Hmmm... I should have learned my lesson about that by now!
Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow!

I agree - eyes are so important and so hard to get right!
I saw a few ETSY sellers who have doll eyes for a little less but have not tried them yet...
Have you ever tried pre-baking the eyes for a doll? I do that sometimes to get the colors just right. Make, bake, sand and finish then insert into main sculpture. Bake the final product and voila!

Thanks so much, guys :) I love having all my little blogland visitors!
Robin: I'm going to search Etsy. I've been experimenting and I think I have found a brilliant way to make realistic glass looking eyes... but we'll see!
Jannie: You are MUCH prettier than my little elf but maybe I modeled his mischevious mind after you! I wonder if he can sing? I should have given him vocal cords!
